Prompted by the 1988 Liberian Civil War, Rev. Reverend William and Mother Maude Pennoh took in children who were abandoned or orphaned while walking to the regugee camp.
The Orphanage
When the first phase of the war ended, Rev. William and mother Maude couldn't leave the children behind in the streets to die. They took the children home which was the beginning of 'Hope for Liberian Christian Youth'.
Next Steps
The organization worked with UNICEF to build the first orphanage houses.
Our Future
Hope for Liberian Youth exists to give hope and provide a bright future to orphaned children by providing them with food, clothing, education and housing.
